Low-Back Pain

Lumbar Vertebrae

Back pain is one of the most common health complaints, affecting eight out of ten people at some point during their lives.  The lower back is the area most often affected.  For many people, back pain goes away on its own after a few days or weeks.  But for others, the pain becomes chronic and lasts for months or years.  Low-back pain can be debilitating, and it is a challenging condition to diagnose, treat, and study.  The total annual costs of low-back pain in the United States, including lost wages and reduced productivity are more than $100 billion.

Headaches

If you have a headache, you’re not alone.  Nine out of ten Americans suffer from headaches.  Some are occasional, some frequent, some are dull and throbbing, and some cause debilitating pain and nausea.

When your spine is not functioning properly, it can put pressure on your nervous system.  This pressure can lead to a number of symptoms such as headaches or migraines.  Research shows that cervical adjustments may be an effective treatment option for tension headaches and headaches that originate in the neck.

Sciatica

Sciatica describes persistent pain felt along the sciatic nerve.  The sciatic nerve is the longest and widest nerve in the body, running from the lower back through the buttocks and down the back of each leg.  It controls the muscles of the lower leg and provides sensation to the thighs, legs, and the soles of the feet.

This type of pain is different with each patient. The pain can range from mild to severe.  The pain normally starts in just one leg and continues to move from the lower back down to the foot.  This condition can worsen with more pain as time goes by.

Back Pain Between The Shoulders

When a patient feels pain between the shoulder blades or in the upper back, it is almost always a problem with the thoracic spine and rib joints.  Sometimes, it can even hurt to take a deep breath and increase when the patient bends the head down.

Pain in Shoulder, Elbow, Arm, Wrist, Hip, Leg, Knee, Foot or Ankle

Trauma, poor posture, obesity, and weak muscles often disrupt in joint balance, causing joint dysfunction, resulting in pain and stiffness.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome is the most expensive of all work-related injuries.  Burning, tingling, itching, and/or numbness in the palm of the hand and thumb, index, and middle fingers are most common symptoms.  It occurs when the median nerve gets compressed in a narrow tunnel at the wrist (the carpal tunnel).

Bursitis

In many areas of the body, muscles and tendons must slide over and against one another during movement.  At each of these places, a small sac of lubricating fluid, called bursae, helps the muscles and tendons move properly – if they become swollen and irritated, they can cause pain.

Arthritis

Arthritis means joint inflammation and there are over 200 different types of arthritis that can affect both young and old people.  If you suffer from arthritis, your doctor of chiropractic can help you plan an individualized treatment program that will help decrease stiffness and pain.
