Journal of the American Medical Association, Suggests Chiropractic for Low Back Pain
Chiropractic Physicians Provide Natural Alternatives for Pain Treatment, Injury Prevention
An article in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), recommends chiropractic as a first means of treating back pain. The article states that not only surgery is not usually needed but should only be considered if more conservative therapies fail. This article reinforces that conservative care options should serve as a first line of defense against pain.
The Journal of the American Medical Association recommendation comes after a recent study was done by the medical journal Spine. The study was of sufferers of lower back pain, in which all participants received standard medical care and half of the participants additionally received chiropractic care. The researchers found that in the participants that received standard medical care plus chiropractic care patients that 73% reported that their pain was completely gone or much better after treatment compared to just 17% of the participants that just received the standard medical care.
